Yamaha reiterates its commitment for a healthy ecosystem through its eco-friendly products and eco-friendly processes

Chennai, June 5, 2019: Yamaha Motor India Group (YMIG) on Wednesday celebrated the World Environment Day at its corporate office, plant locations, area offices and select dealerships. The activities were conducted keeping in tune with the United Nations theme this year “Air Pollution.” On the occasion, the company organized several activities for creating awareness among the employees, dealers and customers on the importance of a cleaner and greener environment.

Over 10,000 ‘Tulsi’ saplings were distributed to the employees, select dealers and the customers with an aim to save the environment and improve the air quality. In addition to this, free pollution check-up camps were organized at 21 dealerships in various cities including Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar etc. Various employee engagement activities were conducted within the group companies, including screening of environmental protection video, quiz contests, Kaizan initiatives, banner display and tree plantation activity, to create awareness on the actions required to be taken by each individual to protect the environment.

“Increasing air pollution is a big risk to our society. A healthy ecosystem is essential for the growth of a nation. As a manufacturer our responsibility should be to provide eco-friendly products to the society through eco- friendly processes. Yamaha globally is implementing strategic, long-term “Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050”, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions during manufacturing and “reduction in the volume of resources usage” by 50% from the base year of 2010 by the target year 2050. We are committed to develop fuel efficient engines, adopt clean energy sources and implement energy efficient activities in our processes, to comply with local regulations and maintain a healthy environment all over the world,” said Mr. Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies.

On the occasion, the employees at all Yamaha plants and office locations took a pledge to make best efforts to protect the environment and conservation of energy. They also pledged to spread awareness among their colleagues, family, friends and society about the benefits of environment protection and energy conservation.

Reiterating its commitment towards energy conservation and green environment, Yamaha in 2015 & 2016 installed Solar Power Projects in its factory premises at Chennai and Surajpur respectively. The key purpose was to utilize renewable energy sources in the manufacturing processes. The current capacity of the Yamaha’s solar power plants at Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) is 6200 KW and at Chennai (Tamil Nadu) is 3500 KW. Yamaha has always laid emphasis on safeguarding the environment, and our belief – ‘Society in Harmony with Nature’ – signifies our long-term commitment towards the environment.
