Following several rigorous rounds of evaluation, under the category of Student Innovation Projects (SIP), project “God’s Secret Key” by Laavanya N., Sofeiyakalaimathy C., and
Priyadharshiny S. from Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry were awarded the first prize. The second prize was bagged by Ankush Rai from Vellore Institute of Technology,
Chennai for “Internet Vigilante: Vision Based Action Profiler for Multimodal Context Aware Security,” while Shibin George and Prinson V. Jacob from Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering, Mangalore emerged the third prize winners for “Triplet Li-Fi.” The fourth prize was bagged by J. Kanimozhi and I. Valarmathi from Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry for “A Smart Phone Enabled Behavior Monitoring System for Alerting Drowsy and Distracted Drivers.” The students were supported by project guides from Unisys and their institute. Topics for this year included Internet of Things, data analytics, cloud-based applications and services, cloud security, computing everywhere, context-rich systems, and potential future technologies.

The Targeted Innovation Projects (TIP) category, open to both engineering students and experienced technology professionals, attracted a good response; however none of the entries made it to the final round. Participants under this category worked on projects based on the technical problem statements proposed by Unisys engineers.

“We are proud of all the winners and participants of Cloud 20/20 Version 7.0. At a time when the IT industry is focusing on creating and monetizing intellectual property to enhance their competitive edge, having an innovative mind set is key for budding technology professionals. These bright young minds will play a key role in solving tomorrow’s business challenges, driven by the unprecedented demands of an increasingly mobile, data-intensive, and connected world,” said Ravikumar Sreedharan, managing director, Unisys India and vice president, Application Services, Unisys India.

Building on the momentum that has grown steadily over the life of the contest, nearly 1,600 teams from colleges across India participated in Cloud 20/20 Version 7.0. Unisys received 362 project submissions for both SIP and TIP.

Unisys India will offer the finalist teams employment opportunities, subject to their eligibility and availability within the organization.

“Having been part of the Cloud 20/20 judging panel for a few years now, I continue to be impressed by the quality and maturity of thinking displayed by each team, as also their drive to solve real world socio-economic and business problems,” said Jim Thompson, chief engineer and vice president, Systems Software Development, Unisys. “We will continue to work closely with the industry and academia to transform the way the world lives and works.”
