The campaign is in line with the channel’s latest fiction show, ‘Kamali’, where a girl from a village moves to the city to pursue her studies

Bangalore, 6th June 2018: Zee Kannada, a leading general entertainment channel in Karnataka known for its diverse content and shows centred on inspiring characters, has launched a Karnataka-wide Anti-Ragging Campaign. With students from across the State moving to bigger cities in order to pursue their higher studies, the channel has taken up the responsibility to spread awareness against the ill-effects of ragging. Zee Kannada’s latest show, Kamali, will front the campaign, emphasising positive change among the student community in Karnataka.

Kamali is the story of a young village girl's quest to excel in academics and become a Kabaddi professional, while fighting against all odds. Essayed by actor Amulya, Kamali embodies strength and determination despite several roadblocks, ragging being one of them when she moves to the big city to continue her passion for Kabaddi and studies.

Ragging is an issue plaguing educational institutions throughout the country and through this campaign, Zee Kannada will reach out to students in a unique attempt to inform them on the harmful repercussions. By way of theatre and postcard distribution, the campaign was launched earlier today, starting with Bengaluru. The channel has visited four colleges in the city Surana College Peenya, Sri Lakshmi Group of Institution and Surana College Kengeri. This will be followed by a roadshow in 25 colleges across different towns in Karnataka, including Tumkur, Hassan, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, and Hubli.

In a novel approach aimed at connecting with the millennial student community, the programme in each college will feature a skit performed by a four-member troupe that showcased how ragging can negatively impact one’s life. Following the skit and games, Kamali-styled postcards will be handed over to the students, containing a helpline number for those affected by ragging. Featuring an anti-ragging message, these postcards will urge affected students to speak out and share their experiences. Zee Kannada's representatives will be on-location to address any grievances and direct them accordingly. Students will be encouraged to actively participate in the one-hour programme, flavoured with both performances and informational and determining content.

Commenting on the launch of the campaign, Raghavendra Hunsur, Business Head, Zee Kannada said, “Ragging has been a persistent issue in the country and we have taken it upon ourselves at Zee Kannada to see how best we can curb this issue. With our newly-launched show Kamali in the forefront of this campaign, our intent is to spread awareness on the after-effects of ragging among the student community and encourage those who have been affected.”

Chennai, June 6th 2018: Nippon Paint (India) Private Limited (Decorative Division) Asia’s leading paint manufacturer today received the Guinness World record for forming the largest human recycling logo, consisting of 1726 people. The occasion was marked at an Award Ceremony at Radisson Blu, Egmore on June 5, 2018 – that commemorates the conclave on World Environment Day.

The record attempt was the initiative of “Nippon Paint India” in association with B.S Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology and The New Indian Express to create awareness on the 3R’s of Water conservation message (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) on the occasion of World Water Day - March 22, 2018. It was carefully scrutinized by the Guinness board following their standardised procedures, before being handed the record title.

Justice Dr. Jyothimani, former National Green Tribunal and Adjudicator of Guinness Record handed over the Certificate to Mr. Mahesh Anand, President – Nippon Paint (India) Private Limited (Decorative Division), in the presence of Environment activists, FICCI delegates and Panel Speakers, at the Award Ceremony held today at Radisson Blu, Egmore.

Talking about the record, Mr. S Mahesh Anand, President – Nippon Paint (India) Private Limited (Decorative Division) commented, “At Nippon Paint, we have always believed in voicing our strongest support for environment conservation. And what better way to do that than attempting to achieve a Guinness record. The win comes at a perfect timing, as we celebrate World Environment Day today and we hope this will create awareness for the importance of our message - Reduce, Recycle, Reuse.”

The Record was attempted on March 19, 2018 with the help of 1,726 people (students and staff of the University) at B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute and the entire sequence of activity three hours to complete. Everyone was given a green T-shirt and cap to wear, so that that the logo appeared as a block colour when viewed from above – which created some impressive aerial photos. The final design measured 45ft by 75ft, beating the existing record set by Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi in Mersin Cumhuriyet Square, Mersin, Turkey, on 7 June 2017, which had 751 participants.

Mumbai, 6th June 2018: Unicorn India Ventures, an early stage VC fund, has announced another investment in Kerala — an emerging hub for startups. The Fund has invested in Inntot, a software defined radio startup based in Kerala. It is a seed-funding round, which marks Unicorn India as the first institutional investor in Inntot.

This is Unicorn India’s sixth announcement in the State The Fund invested in five startups — Genrobotics, Perfectfit and SectorQube, Bank Open and Clootrack early this year.

Anil Joshi, Managing Partner, Unicorn India Ventures, says, “Over the last one year, as a Fund, we have been on a look out for next gen tech startups and investment made by us clearly reflect our intent to find such growing startups and invest in them. Kerala, in that respect, has surprised as we have seen our investments going to startups which are working on cutting edge technology like IoT, 3D, Robotics and now digital radio receivers.” Investment in Inntot is inspired by the success that we have seen in new age tech startups who are not chasing the tempting matrix but building a product from ground up and opening up a completely new market for themselves rather fighting for a small piece of a big pie, he adds.

Started in 2014, by Rajith Nair and Prasanth Thankappan, with 36 years of cumulative experience across consumer electronics and automotive entertainment in companies like Philips, Wipro, LSI Logic and ISRO.  Inntot aims to bring down the cost of digital radio receivers substantially for OEMs or ODMs. The Company has developed a software-based solution, which will enable them to achieve this vision without using specialized hardware chipsets. Bengaluru, 06 June 2018: Bengaluru city is witnessing increasing cases of seasonal viral fever, dengue, chikungunya and food infections with monsoon setting in its full pace. In a recent report by BBMP, Bengaluru has already reported 41 Chikungunya cases and 368 dengue cases. Additionally, Narayana Health has also witnessed increasing cases of seasonal viral fever and food infections.
 
Aedes mosquito, especially, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus transmit viruses that cause Dengue and Chikungunya. These mosquitoes breed in fresh water and have an exponential ability to multiply and reach 10,000 in numbers in a weeks’ time. Such cases are more evident in construction areas where fresh water tends to get collected during monsoons. It is witnessed that increasing number of cases come from common clusters in and around new building sites. It is hence advisable to keep the surroundings clean, prevent water logging and improve sanitation facilities after heavy rains.

Initial symptoms in both viral infections and dengue fever may be similar, though in dengue the fever, body pain and headache is usually more severe and may not settle with regular paracetamol. Some of the key symptoms for Dengue include retro orbital pain and severe body aches (break bone fever) while on the other hand extreme joint pain and swelling in wrist, ankle and knees are may be suggestive of early Chikungunya. Monsoon also can bring in Food infections resulting in fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, fatigue, and abdominal cramps.

To begin with, it is important to monitor initial indicators like fever, body ache, cold and sore throat for 24 hours. 650 mg Paracetamol in a gap 6 to 8 hours can be consumed for first 24 hours and in case the fever is not under control, it is advisable to get immediate medical consult. It is imperative that Bengalureans keep themselves completely hydrated and increase the fluid intake to 3 to 4 litres a day. It’s been only 2 months that Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala is on air but as they say, time doesn’t decide the depth of your relation. Such is the thickness of Mohit Malik and Aakriti Sharma, who play father-daughter on the show.

Mohit (who plays the role of Sikander) has been living in the city for over 10 years now and but it has only been 5 months that Aakriti (who plays the role of Kullfi) and her family have shifted to Mumbai. As Mohit plays the role her father on-screen, he feels a sense of responsibility towards her even off-screen. Mohit says, “Aakriti is like my own daughter. I remember I had once brought sweet potato for lunch and she loved it so much that I specially started bringing a separate box for her too. Sometimes Addite calls her on her own and asks her what she will have for lunch. That’s the kind of bond we share.”

Aakriti adds, “Mohit Bhaiyya brings a lot of delicious food for me everyday. He takes care of me like his own daughter.”

Initiative aims to bridge the digital gap between rural and urban India and provide
equal opportunities for quality education to children from all backgrounds

NEW DELHI, India – June 7, 2018– Samsung India today announced that it has added 200 new Samsung Smart Class at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools across the country, Government schools in Tamil Nadu and at Delhi Police Public Schools, expanding its flagship citizenship initiative in the country.

With these additions, Samsung Smart Class is now available at 652 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools, 28 Government schools in Tamil Nadu and three Delhi Police Public Schools, taking the total number of Samsung Smart Class in India to 683.

Samsung is committed to harnessing its legacy of innovation to positively transform communities and create a better life for people through its citizenship initiatives. Samsung Smart Class, the company’s flagship citizenship initiative in India, aims to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban India and provide equal opportunities for quality education to children from all backgrounds.

Seventy Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools, which previously did not have a smart class, have got one Samsung Smart Class each, while a second Samsung Smart Class has been added at 99 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools across the country. JNVs are run by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to make modern education available to talented children from rural India.

One of the key challenges being faced by government schools in rural India is English literacy. To address this issue, Samsung has started offering a digital program on spoken English to all students at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools.

Samsung Smart Class initiative has helped over 2.5 lakh children across the nation become digitally literate. It is also in line with the government's mandate of bringing in technology to improve the quality of education and gradually move from blackboard to digital board.”

Since the first Samsung Smart Class was established in 2013 in association with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, over 2.5 lakh students have benefitted from it. In addition, over 8,000 teachers have been trained on how to use interactive technology to teach effectively, improving the quality of teaching and building capacity at government schools.

Teachers and school principals at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools have provided feedback that Samsung Smart Class has increased student attention, reduced rates of student absenteeism and increased student familiarity and comfort with technology such as smart boards, laptops and printers.

Additionally, teachers have also said that students learn complicated concepts more easily and that the digitally interactive environment encourages shy or hesitant students to participate better in classroom discussions.

Every Samsung Smart Class is equipped with an interactive Samsung Smartboards, Samsung tablets, a printer, Wi-Fi connectivity and power backup.
